ashes of august is a great story, and i really enjoyed the way she wrote it. The things that resonated with me most were the opening scene and the part where the man shot himself because of the pressure.
The ending was also incredibly suspensful, and the way she wrote it was jsut fantatsic.
I would write more, but i'm incredibly tired!

I think you're right that was one of the strongest points in the piece. We really don't know what we would do in everyone's different situation.
We can't put ourselves in her place without the same background and same circumstances. Barnes captured a moment we can't relate to.
